The following are a collection of headstone inscriptions collected from St Munchin’s Church of Ireland Graveyard. This is not a complete survey. They are ordered by first surname on memorial. {Part 1 A-F & Part 3 N-W}

Gabbett – Sacred to the memory of Deborah Alicia the beloved child of Daniel and Susanna Gabbett of Bellfield who died December 21st, 1850 aged 1 year and 6 months. Also to the memory of Maurice Windham only son of Oliver and Alicia Fitzmaurice of Duagh House County Kerry who died June 18th, 1841 aged 5 years. This tablet has been erected by their fond parents as a token of their love and regret.
Gale – In loving memory of Harry Gale died May 1st, 1944 R.I.P. erected by his loving wife and daughters.
Gelston – Erected by Ellen G. Gelston in memory of her beloved husband Thomas J. Gelston died January 6th, 1910 aged 70 and their children Ellen E. Gelston died March 12th, 1873 aged 7. Henry C. Gelston died at Agababu W. Africa December 2nd, 1907 aged 38. Edward G. Gelston died March 9th, 1925 in her 82nd year, if love could save than hadst not died. And their son Thomas J. 25th August 1808 12 September 1868. Robert Bob 29th August 1867 3rd July 1940. Richard Dick 22nd December 1880 14th June 1958 The family tomb of Robert Ringrose Gelston MD. Here are deposited the remains of five of his children, Jane aged 2.5 years died February 19th, 1843. Susan Hastings aged 8 months died January 23rd, 1849. Anna Victoria aged 7 years died February 7th, 1859. Elizabeth the beloved wife of Robert Ringrose Gelston MD aged 60 years died May 10th, 1877. R. Ringrose Gelston aged 31 years died September 10th, 1881. Also in memory of Hedley Gelston aged 23 years. Accidentally drowned in Moray River Australia October 14th, 1879. Richard Phillips Gelston died February 28th, 1906 aged 63 years. Robert Ringrose Gelston MD died February 6th, 1908 aged 93 years.
Gelston – In fond memory of Charles St John Gelston who died June 18th, 1893 aged 34 years. Thy will be done.
Gelston – Godfrey Phillips Gelston born December 10th, 1860 died June 27th, 1941.
Gorman – In memoriam M.A. Gorman aged 10 months died September 9th, 1844. Captain Daniel Gorman died July 28th, 1870 aged 70. Brave sailor and true friend. Marianne his beloved wife and a loving mother died September 8th, 1871 aged 60 years. Mary Cliddon of Barnstaple Devon mother of the above died March 20th, 1839 aged 70.
Goose – In memory of J John Goose, son of Richard Goose, Currier of the City of Limerick died July 23rd, 1868 aged 58 years, interred in St Munchin’s churchyard. His wife Jane Goose died April 7th, 1886 aged 66 years. They were faithful followers of Jesus Christ.

Hailes – Erected by Timothy Hailes and Margaret his wife in affectionate remembrance of their dear children John who died 16th October 1861, William died 16th November 1861, Joseph Henry died 15th July 1891, Margaret died 10th August 1891, Alfred Timothy died 13th January 1898, the above Timothy Hales died 5th January 1892 aged 54 years and Margaret his wife died 21st April 1922 aged 84 years.
Halloweel – Erected by the members of the Independent Church Limerick to the memory of Mr. Joseph Halloweel who died 14th September 1862 aged 78 years.
Hamilton – In loving memory of the Rev. O.M. Hamilton M.A. called home 28th August 190? Aged 28 years. Also Cecil James Boswell beloved son of Rev. T.B. Robertson Rector of this parish who fell asleep in Jesus 1st June 1910.
Hamilton – In loving memory of Jessie, beloved wife of the Rev. D.M. Hamilton M.A., called home 28th August 1903 aged 28 years. Also Cecil James Boswell, beloved son of Rev. T.B. Robertson Rector of this Parish, who fell asleep in Jesus 1st June 1910 aged 14 years. Also Alice Mary, his wife, died 7th January 1923, and Rev. Canon T.B. Robertson who entered into rest 3rd September 1932.
Hanna – Erected by David Hanna in memory of his beloved son David John Hanna who died 30th October 1900 aged 4 years.
Hannah – Sacred to the memory of Robert Hannah of 121 George Street, Limerick, who died 6th December 1904 aged 78 years, and of his wife Emily Laura Madeline who died 19th April 1924 aged 79 years. Also of Emma Francis Dunlop who died 6th August 1906 aged 91 years.
Harber – This is erected by Francis Harber of West Cowes, Isle of Wight, as the last tribute of affection to his beloved child, Frances Jane, who fell asleep in Jesus, 14th April 1866 aged 9 years and 9 months. Also Capt. Francis Harber who died at Minatitlán, Mexico on the 7th November 1875.
Hare – Erected by their children in loving memory of Thomas Hare who died 5th June 1873 aged 67 years.
Hare – Sacred to and in loving memory of Charles Hare, Rector of St. Munchins and Archdeacon of Limerick, who died 11th August 1883 aged 63 years.
Hare – Sarah Hare who died 9th December 1882, aged 68 years. Also in loving memory of John Hewson who died 27th December 1891.
Harkness – In memory of Mabel E. Harkness, died 17th May 1983, also her sister Lilian M. Woods, died 2nd September 1985.
Hassett – This stone was erected by John Hassett in memory of his father Pat Hassett. He died 28th September 1825 aged 56 years. R.I.P. to his sister Margaret Clancy who died 10th December 1833 aged 96 years. Also Mrs. John Watson alias Hassett who died 7th July 1814 aged 96 years.
Hewson – Also in loving memory of John Hewson who died 27th December 1891 aged 46 years. Mary Elizabeth Hewson died 20th December 1930 aged 80 years. Rev. George Arthur Hewson died 25th May 1969 aged 89.
Highfield – In loving memory of Susan Highfield whom God called to himself while asleep to live with him in the heavenly mansion prepared for her, 15th March 1927 aged 82 years, and her daughter Susan Greene who departed this life on 11th July 1910 aged 26 years. Also her grandson William Charles Carlton Ross who died 11th July 1899 aged 1 year and 5 months, and her only son John Highfield who entered into rest 23rd February 1932 aged 52 years. Also her daughter Letitia Edith Ashe called home 6th May 1957 aged 87 years. John Hodson Greene called home 17th July 1961 aged 82. Olivette Magill called home suddenly 17th March 1978.
Hill – George V. Hill died 24th September 1912 aged 46 years.
Hobson – Emma Margaret Hobson, widow of Wh. Doyle Hobson. He died 4th March 1871 aged 47 years and is interred in Plymouth. Also her sons Edward O’Brien died 9th October 1886 aged 34, George died 20th July 1890 aged 31, Wm Doyle died 23rd May 1900 aged 45. The above Emma Margaret Hobson died 23rd January 1907 aged 74 years. Also her son Frederick St. Clair.
Hodgson – In loving memory of Mrs. M.A. Hodgson who died in October 1904 aged 50 years, and her daughter Ada Maud Hodgson who died at home 27th January 1940.
Hogan – Here lies the remains of a worthy citizen James Hogan Esq. who departed this life on 26th February 1840 aged 77 years.
Hogg – In memory of Eliza Hogg, relict of the late James Hogg of Cork, who died 1st September 1885 aged 79 years.
Holland – Interred here lies the body of a beloved child William Holland, son of William Holland Junior, who died on the … September 1805 aged … years. Also deposited the mortal remains of Mary Holland, the beloved wife of William Holland Solicitor and daughter-in-law of the above name William Holland, who departed this life on the 8th February (year unclear). Died 15th January 1957 (year unclear). Lilian Edith Howard died 10th January 1966.
Hollywood – In loving memory of Ernest Robert Hollywood who died 4th December 1958.
Holmes – To the memory of Trumpeter C. Holmes, R.A., who died 30th January 1896 aged 17 years. Erected by the men of the Limerick City Artillery as a token of respect. Loved by all.
Home – Erected by a few friends to the memory of Andrew Anderson Home.
Hosford – Erected by William Hosford in memory of Anne Jane, his beloved wife, who died 12th January 1866 aged 32 years. Jane Adelaide, infant child, died 7th October 1864 aged 1 month.
Howard – Erected by Thomas Howard in memory of his beloved children James, died 17th August 1843 aged 11 years and 10 months, Elize, died 30th August aged 6 years. Also the above-named Thomas Howard died 17th July 1850 aged 53 years.
Howard – In loving memory of Alice, the dearly beloved daughter of Andrew and Eleanor Howard, who died 3rd May 1904 aged 21 years. Andrew Howard died 2nd June 1930 aged 51 years. His daughter Mary Ellen Howard died 2nd June 1930 aged 51 years. Eleanor, widow of Andrew Howard, who died 16th March 1935 aged 74 years. Ruby Evelyn, their daughter.
Hyland – To the memory of Margaret Hyland who died 21st May 1856 in the 16th year of her age. This stone is erected by her affectionate mother Anne Hyland.

Jackson – Isaac died May 2nd 1827 aged 16 months. His mother Mary Jackson died June 14th 1817 aged 76. Anne the beloved wife of William Jackson died August 31st 1863 aged 66 yrs.

Also of his wife Anne Jephson, alias Alps, who departed this life July 3rd 1808 aged 94 years. Also of Johanna Jephson, alias Gloster, wife of William Jephson who departed this life May 18th 1816 aged 55 years. Also of her husband William Jephson who departed this life August 2nd 1816 aged 65 years. Also of Oliver Jephson, son of the said William and Johanna Jephson, who departed this life November 1st 1819 aged 20 years.

Jones – Here reposes the remains of Joseph Jones Esq ? With those of his beloved wife is Castoaacempsasn Jones both of whom ente! entered into the joy of their Lord on the 10th Feb. In his 80 year. She on the 28th Feb 1851. Also their only daughter Elizabeth Anne wife of Geo Jackson Esq of Ballybrit Castle Kings. She fell asleep in Jesus on the 8th Jan 1859 in her 51 year. The venerable Arthur E. M. Hewetson Jones MA Archdeacon of Limerick died 20th September 1962. Also his wife Frances Maud who died 8th Sept 1963. Erected by John Joseph Jones Esq of Mount Saler.

Also to the memory of Thomas Kane MD JP who died March 5th 1890 aged 85 yrs and of his wife Maria who died October 25th 1888 aged 75 yrs. Richard John Kane of Whitehall died 3rd January 1895 aged 37 yrs.

McCarthy – Sacred to the memory of P. McCarthy Thomondgate who died January 8th 1868 aged 58 yrs and Elizabeth Ripon his wife who died October 30 1873 aged 42 yrs. And of their children Emma who died December 5th 1866 aged 5 yrs and 6 months, Albert Edward who died at sea September 1883 aged 20 yrs. Arabella the beloved wife of William Douglas who died July 21 1884 aged 27 yrs. Walter Robert lost at sea July 1917, Nellie Douglas grandchild beloved wife of Walter Reid died 16th May 1910.
