The Consecration Bishop Henry Murphy in 1958.

This video owned by Liam O’Sullivan shows the consecration of Bishop Henry Murphy of Limerick in St John’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, Limerick. The consecration took place on August 31, 1958. The video uploaded by JDTVideo also shows images of the area outside the Cathedral and a procession of clergy.

Life of Bishop Henry Murphy

Bishop Henry Murphy was born on May 12, 1912 in Ardpatrick, County Limerick. He attended the local primary school in Ardpatrick before attending further education with the Christian Brothers. He was ordained as a priest in 1936. He placed the foundation stone at St Munchin’s College on April 28, 1960.

He died on October 8, 1973 at Milford House, Castletroy, Limerick. An obituary was posted that same day in the Limerick Leader.

He is buried in Mount Saint Lawrence Cemetery, next to his predecessor Patrick O’Neill.
