The Limerick Leader of Saturday April 12, 1958 reported on the opening of Effin Hall
… the beautiful hall erected at Effin through the efforts of the local Guild of Muintir na Tire, and dedicated to the memory of the late Canon Hayes, Founder of Muintir na Tire, who laid the foundation stone of the building. When opening the hall on Sunday, March 23rd, the Very Rev. M. Morrissey, P.P., Kilteely, the new President of Muintir na Tire, said it was “an outstanding example of what can be accomplished by community effort.”

Canon John M. Hayes, passed away in Tipperary on January 30, 1957, aged 68 years old, following an operation. He was born in Murroe, Limerick and was educated at St Patrick’s College, Thurles and the Irish College, Paris. He was he parish priest for Bansha Co. Tipperary from 1946 until his death.
